The decision by the Tokyo High Court came after a district court ordered the former executives in July 2022 to pay around 13 trillion yen ($90 billion) in compensation. Both the defendants and shareholders seeking the damages had appealed the ruling.

In China, diverting flood-waters to areas next to rivers is a major step in managing downstream flooding. As extreme rainfall grows in frequency, China is increasingly utilizing such areas, some of which have been unused until now and have been populated by farms, croplands and even residential buildings, stoking social tensions.

Trump says he would consider bombing Iran again, drops sanctions relief
